Committee Reports
Our Fall fundraiser, the BBQ Chicken Dinner Sale, was discussed by event chairman LC Chapman. It was discussed that flyers must be ready by the next TCS meeting in September (29th) in order that they can be handed out and advance orders taken. LC and Rick are to get together prior to the next meeting, finalize the dinner menu details, and Rick will have the flyers ready.
Our "Liberty Call Charleston" event chairman, Don Pace, spoke on the progress and planning of that event, scheduled for 4/18-4/20 of 2008.  He reported that the Econolodge of Goose Creek had blocked the maximum number allowed (38) for use of our event, as well as thrown in a hospitality room for our use at no charge. The reservations must be made by March 20, 2008 and the registering party must mention Tin Can Sailors. He also went through some of the events planned, including a Seafood Buffet on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday morning breakfast, and a Dinner Banquet on Saturday night. A possible CSS Hunley tour is in the works, as well as free time planned on Saturday for our guests to look around on their own. Our event will conclude on Sunday with the Hobson Memorial Service at White Point Gardens. Our guests will be free to depart from there.  Rick Bernard reported on the public relations activities associated with the event, including his talk with TCS rep Terry Miller about the whats and whys of our putting on the event, as well as getting our word out in the October Issue of TCS magazine. Transportaton was also discussed, but decided that more in depth planning could be made after we started pre-registration. XO Coates mentioned that once all arrangements are finalized, we can post our flyer and registration forms on the internet for download. This will make it easy for anyone to have access. A link will be furnished on the front page of the Post 166 website at that time. More to come in September meeting.
Our Horseshoe tournament make-up from the rain out, previously rescheduled for Sept 15th, was discussed, and a vote by the body was approved to move it to October 13th, same day as our BBQ Chicken fundraiser event. A show of hands proved there would be ample support to handle both events at the same time. It was also brought up that flyers will be needed for this event, as stated by Fred Reynolds, that there are several Horse shoe clubs in town and that one in Moncks Corner would be interested in participating.
